Things do not go as planned and they lose their entire savings to a conman, Gangooly (Shyamal Sengupta), who took their money by pretending to be a landlord. Settling in the city’s poorest area, Hasari finds Max Lowe (Patrick Swayze), a Texan doctor who has been assaulted and robbed, lying in the street. He takes him to his district, where the homeless and lepers live. While there, Max becomes friends with Hasari and an Irish doctor, Joan Bethel (Pauline Collins), who runs the local clinic. Despite his mixed emotions, Max works alongside Joan and endeavours to make the best of things in the ‘City of Joy’.
