Despite performing the specialised task of sewing upholstery for car seats, the work carried out by the female employees is classified as unskilled labour and they are paid much less than their male colleagues. Encouraged by a sympathetic union representative, Rita agrees to bring the women’s grievances to Ford. The meeting goes badly, so, outraged by the company’s lack of respect for them, Rita leads her female colleagues to strike.
