He obliges, though when he gets back to Los Angeles, he is questioned by police about the death of Terry’s wife, Sylvia. The cops suspect Marlowe, until it’s reported that Terry has committed suicide in Mexico. Marlowe is suspicious, but takes a new case from a beautiful blond, Eileen Wade (Nina van Pallandt), who’s husband, Roger (Sterling Hayden), has gone missing. He locates Roger and discovers that both he and Eileen knew the Lennox’s socially. With new information, Marlowe sets out to find out the truth and find out who murdered his friends.
