Strong-armed into forming a football team comprised of inmates, Crewe manages to instil trust and friendship between the men. They have the chance to beat the guards’ football team, headed by Captain Wilhelm Knauer (Ed Lauter), when Warden Hazen wants to play an exhibition game. Although, Crewe soon faces a dilemma when the Warden orders him to throw the match, threatening to reject the pardon he’s been promised.
